Mount Carmel was formed when Saint Francis de Sales Cemetery (founded 1847) Saint Mary’s Cemetery (founded 1854, were merged. Historically St Francis served all Catholics in the area with a high percentage of Irish. In 1854 St Mary’s was formed to serve and served primarily German speaking parishioners.  In the 1930s additions and revisions made to the cemetery .
