There are as many reasons to home educate as there are homeschooling families. Also, there is a wide variety of educational methods, styles and curriculum easily available. The "right" way to homeschool depends on your individual family's personality, talents, learning styles and temperament; it also depends on your ultimate goals and financial resources. If you are considering embarking on the exciting adventure of home education or are new to it and would like to meet with some seasoned homeschooling families, please let us know. That said, here are a few suggestions we can safely say apply to everyone:
Join HSLDA (Home School Legal Defense Association) - Just do it. You may never have a homeschooling legal problem, but better safe than sorry. Also, you will be helping other homeschoolers living in states that aren't as home education friendly as CT. You will also receive discounts on homeschooling items and services.
Join TEACH-CT (The Education Association of Christian Homeschoolers of CT) - Again, just do it. TEACH is CT's statewide Christian homeschool organization and they provide a wide variety of valuable services to the Christian homeschooling community. TEACH also provides an annual homeschool convention and used curriculum fair in the Hartford area. Support them with your membership as they (volunteer homeschooling families) support you. You'll also receive a HSLDA discount if your are a TEACH-CT member!
Find support - Whether it's through
L.C.C.H.A. or another support group, don't stop looking until you
find a few homeschooling comrades that you can turn to for those bad
days or rough patches. A list of Connecticut Christian homeschool
support groups can be found on the
TEACH-CT
website.
Be faithful in the little things - If you are faithful in little things, you will be faithful in large ones. Luke 16:10 (NLT 2007) - Homeschooling is an accumulation of faithfully spent minutes that add up to hours, days and even years! Be faithful in the little things and the large ones often take care of themselves.
